Abstract: My thesis starts puts forth the proposition that sociology is yet to gain recognition as a science capable of coordinating our societies struggle against the mounting risk of climate change actually happening. Therefore, this thesis will aim at providing clarity concerning what sociologist might do to change this. To do this, a theoretical synthesising of different scattered Michel Foucualt passages concerning industrial production is created, which arrive at a definition of this industrial production, saying that industrial production may be perceived as the coupling of two techniques of governing workers. The theoretical synthesis also shows, that these two techniques – called disciplines – are informed by a specifically modern way for the sciences to arrive at their findings. I then go on to analyzing sociologies by Ulrich Beck, John Urry, Slavoy Zizek and Bruno Latour. My analysis of Beck and Urry shows that while they both try to give directions as to how our societies may go about fighting the risk of climate change, his propositions essentially leads into a dead end where industrial production is fought by doing exactly what created the industrial production i the first place. My analysis also shows that Zizek and Latour actiually avoids this dead end, and this gives me hope that these two sociologies may be of much help, as our societies try to combat the threat of climate change.
