Ukontrollerede emneord: faldende europæisk social sammenhængskraft, analysemodel
Abstract: The purpose of the problem presented in this thesis is to examine the development of the collected European social cohesion during the financial crisis and to discuss the effect of a development on the future possibilities of European integration.
To study this collected development, the existing literature on European social cohesion and Randall L. Schwellers theory of social cohesion is applied in order to develop a broad analysis model. The model developed in this thesis consists of four basic factors each of which consists of a range of elements. The purpose of developing such a model is that no previous model fully captures the complexity of European social cohesion and to the argument that in order to properly understand European integration, it is necessary first to understand the complexity of the European social cohesion.
The argument in this thesis is therefore that European social cohesion is an extensive and complex variable. As such it requires a large and thorough amount of available or new data. It has not been possible to attain data of this quality. The available data was, however, adequate to describe the general direction of the development of the individual elements of the European social cohesion.
With these methodological limitations the thesis was only able to discuss the general implications of this development on the future possibilities of European integration.
The contribution in this thesis has therefore been to develop a broad and inclusive theoretical model of the collected European social cohesion and to identify and describe its general consequences for the European integration.
The conclusion from the analysis is that the European social cohesion on all four factors has decreased significantly and that the collected effect of these falls has affected the future possibilities of European integration negatively.
From these conclusions the thesis discusses the increased difficulties of consensus due to the increased number of union members and the possibilities of differentiated European integration. From this discussion, it is concluded that European integration might be strengthened if it is differentiated in accordance with the areas of the union with a strong social cohesion.
