Abstract: The aim of this thesis is showing the relation between corruption and growth. This relation is not always obvious since many fast growing economies are suffering from high corruption level. High corruption levels plague countries with impressive growth pe formance, such as China and India1. Due to specific conditions in different countries, uncertainties in establishing universal connection between corruption and growth exist.
This paper presents a serious attempt in establishing causality between corruption and growth in Albania. The advantage of analysing this relation in a single country allows the analysis to go in depth and capture the complex nature of this relation. The causes of corruption are not always obvious and are single dimensioned. Therefore, deep knowledge of the country’s economic and political structure is required.
The disadvantages for the attempt in establishing such relation in the Albanian case, is the lack of data. Data limitations makes the process of formalising proof of correlation between the two, increasingly harder. Hence, this paper will rely on the qualitative data and the in-depth review of the Albanian economic, social, and political situation when attempting to establish such a relation.
